They are using them to build robots.

Do you mean you wonder where its lead is?
It needs a pair of jump leads to get the fungi started. 
University of West of England in BRISTOL is a front runner in biorobots.
There is also some research into trees communicating through fungi.
It looks like they may be picking up the same signal.
