Plant identification apps

For those who want to see some research on plant ID apps, there’s a helpful blog here:

That is ok when you have good photos as he mentions but what about with the less than ideal images that we (occasionally) get on ispot.

That will always be an issue. But a good app has a better chance than a bad app of getting the ID right, even if the image is poor.

After reading the review I could not reist trying the winner, Obsidenty, on a marine alga. An area that Plantnet is particularly hopeless. I tried it with my recent observation of

I was amazed to see that with a 99% certainty it gave the correct identification. Rather impressive I thought.
