Could it be related to the amount of user traffic at a given time. It was good at around 6.30 this morning.
Same old, same old STALLED at about midnight, was semi-fine before that, when updating my Orchid Showcase.
Waited till this am with computer on Hibernate - however the location had been corrupted - which can happen, so was placed in GLOBAL.
Updated now so allās well that ends well
Just done another test with the site not letting me in at 08.51, firefox win 11. Did not clear cookies but just tried repeatedly to reload the page about 20 times till 09.00 and every time ended up with 500 error.
In meantime tried on another computer and got straight in during this period. Then cleared cookies on first machine at 09.00 and got straight in on that one too.
Iāve been experiencing various errors that probably donāt belong in this thread. The latest was when I clicked on one of the links in ātracked changesā and was told that iSpot was in maintenance mode. I switched to Edge and got in with no trouble at all.
Yesterday, the row of icons where you can choose ābirdsā in the carousel disappeared.
And when I posted a comment, the circle just kept going round and round and then stopped. No notice came up that I could see that the comment had been posted. But it had been.
Itās kind of āreassuringā to know that you have the same issues. If only someone with POWER was an avid iSpot user, something would be done.
BUT we must not give up. We should just keep trying, I do and eventually it gets done - Observing, Commenting and Agreeing I mean.
I am regularly finding I cannot log OUT in the normal way.
Logging in, then OUT of the forum, logs me out of the main site, clearing my Browser history does too. Another chore which just holds me backā¦
Yes, the clearing in my iMac always logs me out so I lose what I was in the middle of. And so often the spinning thing appears and then logging out is not possible. Sometimes the fix doesnāt ātakeā and I have to go away. No fix that I know of for fails on phone or iPads, just a long wait. The other day I couldnāt get in here to note events.
I have found with my Mac that I can clear the data in another window and resubmit an observation. However, that does not work with comments. With a long comment I copy the text before the submit and if it crashes I paste the comment back. I expect several failures per session.
Yes, Roger has it. Stay logged in, open a new iSpot (you wonāt be able to log in) and use your clear browser key with that one open.
Log in using THAT SAME tab and the older one may then be useable. Saves a lot of typing, picture loading and anger
This works on a PC, I donāt use a Mac. Let us know
Just tried that when spinning began upon adding nameā¦not sure if I followed what I should do, but it didnāt work, I had two windows that both gave the 500 error though in staggered timeframe. Disappointing as it looked like it might work until the last minute, red banner, failure to add observation.sigh
Iām doing a bit of a trial by using the browser
My husband uses it and I thought I would give it a go to see if it has any effect on stopping the spinning and 500 errors that weāre experiencing. Itās now been on my pc for a few hours and all has been ok regarding iSpot but itās really too early to know for sure.
.
One thing Iām really pleased about though is being able to read the Guardian without ads since cancelling my support for them following the ātransferā of the Observer to Tortoise.
Really terrible frequency of 500 errors and failure to get in again. Couldnāt even get in here for a while. Just tried again to add something and photos wonāt upload, red banner appears.
Remind me which Win vers and Browser please
I am Win11 pro and Chrome. I have issues but they are not actually generating error codes, iSpot just grinds to a halt, as though my RAM is full. I log out and in again, most often solves it but I frequently clear my Browser with two iSpot tabs open. Doing so logs you out but only one of them needs the log-in procedure. If you have work in progress, clear the Browser in the other one. It sounds very long winded but actually isnāt.
Doing this on my phone so not sure if Iām replying to a reply to me!
I have an iMac and use Safari. I did try the two tabs thing but no luck earlier today. I sort of object to having to think about this sort of thing, it makes me feel bad, understanding almost none of it. I did get in today but had lost a bit of enthusiasm for what I wanted to do which is a shame, I am losing patience:-(
7.50am today 500 error on this browser. No cookies to clear.
!0:45 8 May⦠On the other hand.. I have just had a complex session, placing demands on the site and had no issues.
I usually only bring it to a standstill when I am composing an Observation or a lengthy comment, rarely when I am editing a Project script of filter
But then, today, this morning. Itās terrible. It seems to happen when I wish to post a lengthy and complex reply, say to an Ichneumonidae species, to find I can complete the comment, with references and difficult words but NOT post it - the site freezes. And it happened yesterday after putting in 8 photos, loads of script and loads of hope. I tried most things to no avail. I can copy the comment (NOT the observation), save it somewhere, and hope to remember to complete the task later.
Should we all take a break or stick to the simple?
There were 23 new plant observations appeared before lunchtime. Iād managed to agree to 3 (and put one to one side prior to checking books) before Error 500 occurred. Iāve since managed to at least look at the remainder, but itās now switched to Error 524.
After checking one new comment, there were 6 new plant observations this morning. iSpot hung up on the 6th as I was trying to select an identification.
Even failed at 6:50 am on a Sunday morning, on the 3rd time filtering the lower main page carousel to plants. (Hung up; error 500 on backspacing to changes tracker and refreshing.)
