Thanks for keeping us informed.
Surely it would be nice to see a short explanatory comment in a regularly updated item on the Home Page (NOT a Flash Banner please). Something just suggesting what the current situation is and the attempts to find a solution with a hint of promise. I honestly assume we are losing users, who do not come to the Forum and who do not wait patiently in hope before going home or to another place…
Also Has iSpot been updated? - #12 by dejayM
Just on this particular issue there have been about 10 lengthy emails to/from various parts of IT infrastructure, at least 6 different options for fixes for the issue each with various pros and cons none straightforward, underlaying issues that also need to be addressed. Most of this way above me and almost everyone on ispot. Better to let them get on with it rather than spending ages trying to summarise the situation. On some occasions we do give further explanation.
I’m still finding that I get about ten minutes per session on iSpot before the whole system ‘hangs’; and then I have to leave it for a quite a while.
It focuses the mind on what I want to prioritise but means that I miss a lot of observations.
Yes I am getting the same and I suspect everyone is, the actual length of time will vary.
We think we know why this is happening and how to fix it properly but that is a very big task which will take many months. In the meantime smaller adjustments are being tried which may help a bit.
I’ve given up trying to post anything for over a week now.
.
Could someone communicate when the issues are fixed?
.
Otherwise we all have to go through multiple painful attempts to post observations which fail again.
I know the site is a bit of a pain to use at present, today it has allowed me on in blocks of 5 to 15min then either thrown me off or had issues logging in for a couple of minutes then let me back in properly for longer again. I have been uploading the images and saving the observatoin then editing or adding the ID just incase I do get thrown out. This minimises any loss of work.
Do you get the correct values if you logout and log back in again?
500 Internal error … then it seemed to clear itself and it’s currently letting me into observations it refused to let me look at earlier in the day. Load issues??
Working fine this afternoon for 10-15 mins (though I didn’t try to post anything) then suddenly started to ignore me, refusing to open observations.
we are going to try a possible fix for this issue in about 10 days time, will let you know nearer the time as site will have to go down for a while for it to be installed.
I see frequently the error mentioned by Ian_M above. I have always assumed it was a temporary overload. I has always ‘gone away’ after a refresh
Can we assume the ‘possible fix’ was last Saturday?
I still think the site is better behaved lately.
Adding an Observation with 8 photos is MUCH easier IF the site does not crash because someone is asking too much of it (I often do).
I am learning to add 1 photo, enough script to place the Observation and saving. Then coming back to add a photo or two and more text. I actually don’t mind doing that because being left completely stranded with a lengthy Observation on my screen is the pits!
No I don’t think the attempted fix has been tried yet but I have been away so not sure.
