A single point in time and single location but noticed this sunny warm afternoon at end of July with 50+ species in flower (mostly nectar providing) in garden but no butterflies and very few bees or other insects. Compared to childhood when garden would be alive with insects and several species of butterflies.

30+ years ago I planted some Buddleias to attract butterflies. They attract rather fewer nowadays. I also didn’t like to open windows at night because it allowed ingress to insects, including mosquitoes. That’s much less of an issue nowadays.

The classic one is the lack of insect splatter on cars which was such a feature of my childhood.
