Rosehips for dinner?

I was going to post this as an observation, but since the culprit has fled the scene, I didn’t expect a positive ID could be made.

Even so, I thought it was interesting enough to share.

Right by a road, and not too far from a large pond.

Any ideas who might enjoy a rosehip for dinner, and leave a mess like this?
