Does that mean they are all wrongly identified? Or that there is an error in the dictionary (OK, another error)?
No, not wrongly IDd. These are correctly IDd as Sheep
None of the photos are of the Zwartable Breed
It should read Other Observations of Domestic Sheep (Ovis aries)
The Common name (in ALL cases) needs to be coded out
Not everyone uses a ‘correct’ Common name
That’s actually very useful because “Dead blackbird” doesn’t appear in the vernacular names table, so that can only be coming out of the identification records - which is not how it should be working. I think that should be classified as a bug!
there are THOUSANDS of examples of people using their own Common name variants.
If I had time I would find you some Outstanding examples. It is NOT a bug, its freedom of expression
About 90% iSpot scientific names have no Common name
If you could give me the link to just the Blackbird one, that would be useful - so I can check what happens when I fix the code (providing I can find it).
I will never find that one again. But it was an observation of a dead bird
But Maggs48 Zwartbles is typical of the difficult ones and quite legitimate
the code needs to disregard common names when titling the Other Observations strip.
the Leps one above has a strip of IDENTIFIED leps (not UNidentified). It’s NOT the common name itself that’s the problem, it’s the fact that the common name is carried in the title. Fine when it is just Chaffinch but not when the common name is typed as Strange Chaffinch
Fortunately there ARE no Other Observations of Sneezeweed because the Common name is wrong
See unknown flower | Observation | UK and Ireland | iSpot Nature
I couldn’t find any with dead blackbird as the common name but I can give you a link for a Blackbird juvenile: https://www.ispotnature.org/communities/uk-and-
Also, Blackbird observations with the common name Blackbird or Common Blackbird but without a scientific name AND with a likely banner. N.B. In some cases, other users added a revised ID but reputations have kept the banner with the Common name ids.
Two observations of Turdus merula subsp. merula. Possibly a mistake?

Blackbird observations without photos/descriptions - delete?
Thanks HB
I like the white feathers one
I am the first agree-er (in 9 years) to the Albino ‘fieldfare’, though it is a blackbird
I have added my ‘weight’ to those with just the Common name as ID because they are linked correctly to the Dictionary. Nothing is lost and it is a courteous thing to do
I have added a comment to the Linford Wood Observation. I have asked Mike for a stock photo in Male Blackbird, The other 4 have already gone to Mike for probable deletion
This one helps my ‘argument’ about the Other Observations Title bar @Chris_Valentine
Lest you forget @miked @Chris_Valentine
NONE of these are the subspecies (Global Observation)
Flagging up Hygrophila can be an Invertebrate or a Mushroom.
Thanks
there is only one occurrence in the Dictionary (to the snail)
No need for an entry in the Index
If you type Hygro… into the Sc box, you get Hygrophila as first choice
There no other similar ‘errors’ in iSpot but 11 Obs for the snail
