The people who are most likely to be able to help with that are those who have actually been to the island in question.
I only know about birds and endemism - and eBird is the go-to place to get an overview. https://ebird.org/explore
Personally, I like going to a place and seeing what I can see. I had a lovely visit to Cyprus where I was able to photograph birds, the occasional butterfly, dragonfly, etc.
thanks. Iv been doing lots of research on Wildlife of Africa and Spain. Iv been told I need to decide by Friday so I need to come to a decition tomarow.
Iv just been given another week since I havnt decided yet Iv got until next Thursday
Spain will be interesting. Climate Change is going to have a massive impact on habitats and species distribution.
I’m sticking with the local area on www.BrightonWildlife.com
I’m sure you’ll enjoy it, wherever you choose. In the current weather, the idea of a warmer climate has its attractions!
yes it is one of the bigest reasons though is that I used to go to Memorca alot but havnt been to a hot place for a long time. I have only been going on holiday in the UK and its been a couple of years or longer since iv been on holiday to another country I havnt been wildlife watching or birdwatching in a different country before and im so used to seeing the Wildlife in the UK it would be great to see ones not of this country for a change ones that are differemt to our Wildlife
it is one of the places im thinking about but im stuck between North Africa and Spain. Spain means alot cause I ised to go to Menorca alot when I was younger. but I havnt wildlofe watched in a differemt country to the uk before and it would be interesting but Iv allways wanted to go to Africa and if I went to Africa I would be going to a completely different country iv never been to before and see African Wildlife which will be differemt to the ones im used to seeing in the UK and in both cases i can see endemics.
its one of those situations where you would choose both but unless you duplicate yourself then you can only pick one.
if one me could take a plane to Spain and the other me take the other plane to Africa then I could go on holiday to both amd Wildlife watch on both but theres only one of me so I can only pick one.
im not sure if if I stayed in North Africa weather I will be able to take a ferry to spain to visit an island for the day then look around North Africa the rest of the holiday cause I dont know how long it takes to get from North Aftica to Spain by boat if I did want to visit while on holiday in North Africa
theres more variety in North Africa and have alot of endemics whereas in spain theres leas variety and it depends on the island how many emdemics arw found on those islands and what. but the canary islands are smaller which as pointed out could make endemics easyer to see
The shortest crossing across the Med is only about 15 miles and there are boats. But It would use up some of your time and add to the expense. To make the most of Morocco, say, you’d have to travel quite a lot within the country.
do you know how long it would take to get from morocco to The canary island by boat?
I think you’d have to go from Spain
thanks for the link Sureybirder
iv had a Complication im transgender and LGBTQ and North Africa isnt very supportive of LGBTQ its actualy illegal there. but South Africa is tolerent of LGBTQ to some exstent. however it would take too long to get there compared to North Africa so im having to consider other alternatives alongside spain like Sweden Argentina, Canada and Germany as an example for Wildlife watching but Im still thinking about spain so unless im ok with 10 hours to get to South Africa then I wont be able to go there for Wildlife watching
admittedly I was disappointed to find out they arnt LGBTQ friendly cause Iv allways wanted to go to Africa and its the closest part of Africa I could go to but it narrows it down to Spain or somewhere else unless there is another way of getting to south Africa than by plane that gets you there quicker. if not il have to go on holiday somewhere else. a country I havnt been to before and go Wildlife watching there and then go to spain for the day either go to Spain from a different country for the day or just have my holiday in Spain
You could do a lot worse than Spain, Zo!
Canada would take almost as long as South Africa - and it will still be frozen, I’d imagine. Wildlife could be interesting but there wouldn’t be much diversity.
Years ago I had a holiday based in Algeciras and had a great time - with day trips into the mountains and into Gibraltar, as well as along the coast.
sorry for the comfusion. it is the other way around. I identify as Male rather than female so I go by Zo instead of Zoe since Zoe is a feminine name. so would it be ok to remove the e if that is ok?
yes I got mixed up and thought canada was closer than it actualy was. im not familer with Canada though so I wasnt aware that it was a continent that would be frozen amd I domt know what Wildlife are found there other than the canada goose.
probably closest places are ireland. and if course dont forget the coldest. Iceland. the freezing cold island not far from the north pole that I almost comsidered until I noticed it was close to the north arctic circle, and Sweden
and finaly the warm ones Spain and france Germany. argentina however could take a very long time so that one is off the list for now
we reslly need more warm countrys and we really need them to be as close to the UK as ireland rather than the colder ones being closer but since the uk and european continent split up from the uk continent years ago i dont think that is likely to happen. although we are lucky to have spain close by and Africa is only 2 continents away from us. it takes 2 or 3 hours to get to North Africa and 10 hours for south Africa. better than no warm contimemts to go on holiday to at all though.
since the continents used to be part of the UK I wonder weather spanish Wildlife and African Wildlife and irish Wildlife were once all part of the Uk aswell rather than some only being found in certain contrys and weather Wildlife in the uk and europe were afected by the Seperation of the cintinents
Sorry, Zo, my mistake.
