so as you can imagane there is probably at least one or two areas that havnt been as well recorded since there is so many islands particularly the un inhabited ones
im thinking I could choose one of the islands that are in habited island for my holiday and visit the nearby un in habited islands on a day trip when im on holiday. Iv been through all the un in habited islands the un in habited islands are under the tourist radar. most you cant stay on but you can visit for the day
agios Georgios has a wind farm on it
as for Agios Thomas Saint Thomas
the island can be reached by Ferry.
45 minutes from Athens and 20 minutes from Corinth
Fleeves used to be used as a navy fortress in world war 2. a dry island. even though its abanded like the others it is good for diving and has sea caves and you can see octopus and lots of fish and anchient remains of boats and other things under the sea
Katramoniso
lots of grass and shrubs aswell but has a beach aswell
Laouses
islets
Nisoi Laouses
mainly known for fishing
Leros Salminos
not well known but has the deepest natural harbor
modi Porou
low key and it has a very green habitat but pine forests, aswell as a beach and harbor
Pera island Arta
a Rocky island
last week i was given 2 weeks so I dont know what 2 weeks is from last week but it cant be any longer cause it needs to be booked. Im going to be going on holiday to skomer in May or June to see the puffins but for the holiday where im going to a different country I dont have long left im still researching but if you have any more ideas or infomation that will help speed things up and help decide that will be helpful if thats ok
I didnât think that. The autistic people in my family are incredibly thorough when it comes to pursuing a topic to the end. My offspring was interested in reading about autism and went to incredible lengths to find out everything they could about it, including reading and watching (some excellent) videos on Youtube. Thatâs just one example.
But Iâm glad that you take a break when you need to.
ok. I just thought I should say just in case since I was commenting on that post and sent stuff on there aswell.
where I said take a breack though I can go on for hours without a breck cause im so focused but If its one of those ones where I can be working on it most of the morning and afternoon and possibly the evening and go on for days I try to remind myself to have at least one breack. I didnt want to sound like I was getting carried away or going overboard or anything like that which is why I said thst I do take breacks. sometimes I can go for days without taking a break but I try to remember to have at least one breack. at the moment my research focus is the holidays and iv only been given until almost the end of this week
Iâm sure that the right solution will come to you - but I also think that if one of your aims is to record a little-recorded island, you are going to have to take something of a step in the dark!
what does the part going to have to take a something of a step in the dark mean?
I mean that you will never know for sure that you have made a good choice until you actually arrive at your chosen destination.
ok. im not exspecting to know absoloutly all the species there but knowing what ones a location dont have enough records for or how well there recorded or what familys they have much of - or people have recorded much of and therfore so far how much they currently know they have so far
for instance 30 species of bird has been recorded on this island
invertebretes and spiders 70
100 species of plant have been recorded here most endemic
on another island
more than 100 species of birds have been recorded
and over 300 species of invertebrete and spiders
60 species of plant have been recorded
here
so there is a great deal of biodiversity
wheres another island in the same country in a different part to the other island with different mocro climates
lots of emdemic species have been found on this island then they will list the familys how many and what species and how many endemics like spain or crete in Greece
however they may have a higher number of plants than other familys
or less small animals since not many have been recorded and more big animals like wolfs for example .
there will be other species aswell but then theres some species in a particular family that is well recorded and others not so first im finding these out and seeing how many observations are made on the islands and then along with infomation such as weather it has an airport or weather it has a boat so that i can plan weather to take a boat or to stay on a island
from research I have found so far from researching the different islands most have a hot mediteranian temerate climate. consistent hot and dry weather during summer rarely rains. after the summer tempratures start to drop again. autumn the temprature is more mild but winter and Spring is rainy season. they get more rainfall. there is a few islands with mocro climates so it delends on where you go you can have more than one climate depending on weather you go north west or east south but still predominantly meditetanian but not all of them some of the islands are more afected by its proximity to Africa or other continents both climate habitat and species wise. the sporades have lots of volcanos. other islands maybe more beach and barely have greenery others may have alot of greenery aswell as a beach and alot have unactive or dormant volcanos except for one that currently has a active volcano
although i say and am saying all this infomation from memory cause of my Autism in case you might be interested I have added 2 links for those who might be interested
and some of the islands have different anount of family recorded to others aswell some have lots of un in habited islands some dont some have endemics some dont and some have more endemics than others.
just out of curiosity does anyone know why there is only observations on one Greek island and not any of the other greek islands on the i spot map?
Youâve selected the first thousand observations. If you click on âshow more observationsâ more will appear. I am not sure but I think that these represent totals for countries? Cetainly there seem to be quite a lot for Cyprus. But I am surprised that there donât seem to be any for Turkey. @dejayM will probably know.
If you go as far as 20000 odd observations youâll find more observations from the Eastern Mediterranean, but most of them are still from Crete (not Cyprus). There is one from Turkey, and others from mainland Greece and other Greek islands.
If filtering on geography is possible, itâs not obvious how to do it. One might have to resort to a project.
Crete is a popular wildlife tourism destination. The clustering may just represent one or a few personsâ holidays.
I did press show more and all it came up with was observations for only one of the Greek islands. Malta isnt part of the Greek archapelagoes and so isnt part of the Greek islands or Greece
these are the Greek islands
and some snapshots from the map on ispot zoomed in and out aswell
Iv just noticed that it doesnf show them all even if you click more even if you press more it still continues saying more observations until you get to 2000 or more and there is some obsservations on some of the islands now
im going on holiday to near Snowdonia in Wales next Monday and its not far from the Beach so I asked Mum if its near the sea can we visit every day and she said probably so as a joke im thinking Multi pocketed back pack 800 mm lens Hat, sun glasses, tshirt and shorts, and some wings cause it might be windy
that isnt the only place im going on holiday this year im going to Skommer island in June and I will be going on holiday to a different country. in July im going to Shrewsbury and then in September im going to Cheshire so I will be going to Wales once this month and once in June so I will be going twice, then I will be going to Cheshire and Shrewsbury which makes 3 locations in the uk and one in a diferent country. possibly on the greek islands. so im recording Wildlife both in the UK and abroad this year which should be helpful for biological recording
Well, thatâs a lot of excitement ahead, Zo and I hope you have a fabulous time on all those planned trips! Weâll look forward to your pics. Hope you need your sunglasses!
