Ups and downs of biological recording

I have been looking into Cyprus. they arent directly afected by the war going on with iraq iran Gaza and Russia but refugees are comeing over from those countrys other than that it is safe for tourists. LGBTQ wise they are ok as long as you dont go to North Cyprus aparantly. belive it or not im actualy half greek half english. my biological father was greek cypriot when he was alive. he was born there. My Mum is english and my step dad is english though which is why I Speak english. it would be interesting to see what Wildlife are found there. it takes 3 to 4 hours to fly to Cyprus so as long as it would take to fly to the Canarys

Costa Rica. it sounds like an interesting place it takes 10 hours to get there though which is as long as it would of taken to go to South Africa and im not sure weather i would be able to do that long or not yet.

I’ve never been in N. Cyprus but I’ve been in the S several times. And always enjoyed it. Nearly everyone speaks some English and nowhere is very far. Loads of hotels and holiday accomm. Never far from the coast. Good wetlands and moderately high mountains. Low crime rate. We’ve always stayed in Paphos. But you’d probably need a hire car if you want to go inland.

im very cautious about the fact it is surrounded by countrys at war and there is tension in different countrys afecting other countrys at the moment. theres tension in a few parts of America, Africa, Syria and a few others like Korea cause of the war and an election coming up. iran, iraq, Ukrane, are already at war however.

the problom is mainly places within a certain distance of the countrys at war or nearby

. syria is aparantly very bad fir kidnapping and there are terorist groups in sudan in Africa next to a european continent that is near Cyprus. there are aparantly terorist groups that are motivated by the conflict and mainly target westerners, and some european countrys put there warnings at level 4 cause of that. iv read Cyprus has had terorist atacks cause some people cross over from one of the war countrys by boat. if a terorist arived they will usualy have a gun however that is not the only way they have terorised cyprus before. but i found out there was an incident there at one point.
in general its usualy safe and normaly terorism is low but at the moment the level is medium due to being in close proximity to countrys that are at war and that redugees cross over. not all people are terorists but they do get them and the threat is higher cause of the war. in general it is a safe place for travelers though. im still thinking about it its just that is putting me off at the moment

I don’t think that Cyprus has had as many terrorist attacks as some other countries in Europe.
What about Greece?

Iv looked into them. its a diffucult one though. Cyprus only has 2 endemic species of bird. it has some other endemic Wildlife there aswell but not much. as for Greece the majority of the endemic Wildlife are mainly arachnids, invertebretes, and mammels but exspecialy Plants

really what I need is some endemic birds and endemic other wildlife aswell but Greeks is mainly insects invertebrets and archnids, large mammals rather than birds. Cyprus only has 2 endemic birds but endemic reptiles and mammels and particularly plants. Spain has more endemic birds. it has other endemic Wildlife aswell. doending on the island you visit. theres lots of endemic reptiles in the Belarics aswell as reptiles. the mammels in Spain . are mainly small mammels and they dont have as much mammels as Greece and Cyprus do. the canarys have a couple of endemic birds but there mainly sub species of a eurpean bird so if I went there i would mainly be seeing the same birds Robin for example but it will just look different cause its on and from a different island
but what i need is birds i wont see in the uk

I have narrowed down where I want to go on holiday though. taking into consideration the tensions in the usa and how long it takes I wont be going there but il be going to Spain or Greece or Cyprus. so I got the canary islands Belaric islands Greece and the off shore Greek islands and Cyprus so alot of islands to research but its easyer cause I dont have America Africa and the others aswell as hours and the crime rates and laws cause iv already researched the laws in those countrys and the Wildlife there and I have found out you can find true endemics in crepe they arnt birds but mamels and reptiles so that is one island that has true endemics. there names begin with the name of the island and cant be found anywhere else. spain has more bird endemics so it just depends on what you want to see more of sincs there isnt as much mammels as birds for instance and there small ones whereas greece has large ones

I’ve only been to Crete once. To be honest, I found it a bit disappointing. I may have gone at the wrong time of year but I saw a rather limited range of wildlife. I think that part of the problem was that a lot of it was sheltering from the sun in the garrigue and maquis, which are very dense habitats. One of the attractions of Cyprus is that a vast number of migrant birds pass through. March, April, May are good. I believe that Lesbos is also good although I’ve not been there. Possibly Rhodes is worth a look, too.

What about Corsica? I don’t know much about it but it might be interesting.

Lesbos very good for migrant birds, Crete good for plants and culture and some birds. but do need right time of year for any of these places.

I’ve been reading about the Azores. They are large volcanic and pretty much half way to North America. A great deal of the native vegetation has been removed. Their main interest from a bird point of view is the migrants, the seabirds and a fair number of North American vagrants at the right time of year. But it doesn’t sound particularly good for biodiversity.
Greece seems a pretty good bet to me.

with my post about Autism and autistic role models you probably think I havnt been doing any more research but thats not the case Iv still been doing research and Iv been researching for days and for hours no exageration. I do take a break every now and again though. when it comes to research I dont stop researching the topic im researching until Im finished otherwise I wont get anything done.

I have learned alot about different countrys and there rules and how they are different from others or not aswell as what wildlife can be found. I have looked into a few of the sugestions aswell im thinking either Greece or Cyprus but im not sure which

Cyprus is more about Tourism whereas the other greek islands depending on the island you visit arnt. theres so many different Greek islands im struggling to choose. Cyprus you can go on excursions which sounds exiting but I woukdnt be able to walk I would have to go by bus even though alot of places arnt far. and I would prefer the less touristy areas and it is smaller even though they have emdemics and other species of there own. My main purpose is to try and fill in where records are lacking in a different country to help contribute to conservation aswell as make sure I see very different Wildlife to the ones I see in the UK and look for endemics aswell so I have got alot of things to consider while im researching to go on holiday. Crete has some endemic species unique to Crete but im not sure about crete. there is an island slightly off the tourist radar so you can find enpty beaches but where you can see turtles. there os Zakynthos Turtle island Marathonisi here you can go snorkling and swim with the loggerhead turtles they nest here there isnt much other marine life to see aswell though

I have asked my parents if they have been to a Greek island. My Mum and Dad said they have been to Corfu

acording to my Uncle that is on the Greek Cypriot side of the Family. he doesnt know Much about the Wildlife bur he does know other useful infomation Greek and Greece and Cyprus are all different. Cyprus is an independant country. although part of it is ocupied by Turkey illegaly. the island is hot, dry, dusty. although there is a rainy season.

the Greek islands are part of Greece. he doesnt know what all of them are called

Greece isnt an island and as such its weather is more varied North and South.

that is what he said. I dont understand the illegal part but I do know that a long tine ago the Turkish took over the other side (north side ) of Cyprus and then made a line to split the Greek Cypriots from the Turkish. the Turkish dont see it as a part of Cyprus and only recognise it as turky and therfore there is a disagrement between the Greek Cypriots and the Turkish. it is ilegal to cross from South Cyprus to the North Cyprus without permision. those that cross into the North cant cross back to the south and it is ilegal to enter Cyprus through the North. and therfore I would be limited to the south and unable to exsplore the whole of Cyprus unless I got permision. if I wanted to exsplore the whole of a island on holiday to see what Wildlife there is I would need to go to thr Greek islands or Greece

iv written down all the greek islands
both inhabited and un inhabited and theres more than 100 islands altogether so yes its taken an hour or two but this way I can go down the list one by one
