WELCOME TO iSPOT

Sophie joined during October 2016 and posted her first post yesterday.

Helen1 is loving this… But I can’t help feeling that it will become a chore and that WE are missing dozens.
We all need (there are so few of us) to add a welcome note (not more than TWO!) and perhaps we can do more. I added an agreement to Sohie’s Bee. I have NO idea whether the ID is right but an agreement added (and removed) leaves an icon. Might you disagree with the ethic?
Agreements added, then removed, do NOT add to the recipient’s score.
It’;s usually best, in my opinion, to leave a note when you have ‘awarded’ an Icon like this - see https://www.ispotnature.org/communities/uk-and-ireland/view/observation/739339/found-on-a-blade-of-grass-in-a-wooded-clearing

I have only just seen this. How bad is that? How long has it been there?
But it is not BOLD enough - is it?
will it catch beginners or the older eyes of the vets who do not respond to comments?

I’ve developed a bit of nostalgia for the old Your iSpot page, with your most recent, most viewed, most commented, etc observations. It didn’t have all that much active functionality, but it did give you a bit of an idea what iSpot could do.

It appeared recently. iSpot has the ability to have banner messages like that appear which are used for stuff like down time announcements and the like. Looks like the team are experimenting with using them for less urgent messages.

I have a newbie: Suki Pryce - currently posting plant observations.

I have been nagging poor Suki for ages to get herself a camera and start posting obs on ISpot as a possible alternative to - or as well as - bringing bits of dead plant along to Flora Group for ID. Can we make her initial experience a happy one? Thanks!

Global encouragement needed here - please?

done what I can - but they are mostly rose cultivars so not really name-able using ISpot anyway…

Potential site-saviours of the site slip through our fingers daily @marlandza @everyone really

Yes I saw this a couple of weeks ago. Have no idea. I can do ‘garden plants orginating in SA’ and ‘UK things naturalised in SA’ but out of depth for most of the rest of it…

Followed up on Magda’s comment (out of my area) and think that she may be correct.
I was hoping that someone from the Garden Route might have contributed.

New user signed on from Ireland, mixed taxa observations. Link to activity tracker: https://www.ispotnature.org/view/user/69225

Have posted a welcome to Ronan and had a brave bash at a partial ID of an invert, as a start to a conversation. M

. Cpmtaylor posted two marine posts today. This one might be missed as it doesn’t have a coastal or marine tag. He also started a beach project in 2017.

New user, Steve Rolfe (steverolfe) has posted lichen pics today, seeking ID for what looks to my pretty much untutored eye like a Cladonia. I have commented including a welcome. M

That’s been dealt with thoroughly, thanks https://www.ispotnature.org/communities/uk-and-ireland/view/observation/775321/lichen-on-meall-tairneachan
