Gremlins againnnn

no only one showing for me.

The above was in reply to dejay’s message which was the only one showing on my screen at the time of writing the reply so perhaps some slowness happened on my machine too. Actually slowness sometimes also happens when several people trying to use internet and they are between the router and me!

Still an issue across the site
Many observation are not showing the location, just the whole of Greater Britain (care with terminology!)
Actually its a nice bug, I like the idea that all Obs (locations) of one organism BY the specific user are showing
But it is a bug

Is it possible it is something that you are doing e.g. having several windows open and google is somehow picking up the locations from all of them and sticking them on one map. Suspect that is a bug but not clear if it is with the ispot code or the google/browser code.
As I mentioned it is not happening for me.

No, I had the same effect and I only have one window open at a time.
Also, when I return to the home page, the map is still showing from the last observation I visited.
And, while I’m here, I’ve been having all sorts of issues with slow responses and time outs. I cannot get Changes Tracker to function at all.

The map does update if you do a full screen reload.
It is if you view more than one observation by the same user.
Viewing one from another user refreshes the map.

Open an observation that has one or two nearby ones that are yours

I cannot recreate that particular issue Gremlins againnnn - #381 by miked
Nevertheless, Maps is an issue
I created a temporary test project based on a map this evening
iSpot decided to add a second map that was titled East Dereham
It has since cleared BUT it illustrates an underlying problem that is not likely to clear itself

I’m getting it too, also with just a single observation open. The map seems to clear if I look at several obs from the same user and only one pin is shown even if the observations looked at are widely spaced. But if I look at different users, I get a set of pins, for example

OK looks as though the fix I introduced to stop the map disappearing has instead made it persist for too long!

Yes, same for me, the maps linger beyond their relevance, as art of map hangover.

good try then Chris!
But you have fixed the #new location bug

does everyone see themselves at the top of the list?
I am still having trouble seeing this panel when I want or need to.

Yes! It’s nice to be at the top of a list

I’m afraid I’ve had to roll back my tweak to keep the map in the right column. There is currently no function to “remove all markers” in the iSpot code (although Google Maps does support it) so the only way is to remove the map completely and only put it back on the page when you jump to a different observation.

I may have got this wrong, but I thought that when you created an association there was a ‘menu’ of options such as ‘feeding on’ or ‘perched on’.
When I’ve created associations recently, the only option has been ‘associated with’.
As I say, not sure if this is a gremlin or my poor memory.

You are right there was a pull down for links. If my memory is right there was a box to enter text in too.
It has gone AWOL.

yes there should be several options not just associated with

And on this thread… https://www.ispotnature.org/communities/uk-and-ireland/view/observation/857986/not-a-larch#new

Thanks for highlighting this - I didn’t know about that error so will have a look now.
