Hosting video on external services such as YouTube or Vimeo really is better than us trying to host them on iSpotās own servers. Firstly they take up a lot of space - especially as mobile phones tend to default to hi-def these days - and secondly we would have to transcode all uploaded files into a single format in order to embed them in the observation pages. At least external links can be added to observation description fields. You just need to remember to set your video to āpublicā.
I did work on this but found Iād hidden it from everywhere rather than just from the Observation form pages! Need to have another go at this at some stage. I do know what you mean though.
I mean that Users can tick a Box when compiling an Observation that could say Video Present.
This simply put a banner next to Comments Present or, better, IN the ID Panel
It does not need to link to the video - it is just a banner.
The actual link is added by the user in Description but in a bolder way than hitherto - see mine above

This probably has to restricted to Videos that are part of the observation, not just to a web link.
There is NO suggestion that iSpot should host Videos. YouTube may well be the best place for casual shorts - free and easy

I have no idea how many and where the iSpot ones are - I have one, Mike has several and new ones are appearing casually. The issue is that few ;people know they exist because links are hidden in Descriptions.
This has not been viewed for years.

Are you suggesting the tag āvideoā, I may be able to find most of the videos, actually I may have already done this and posted a list somewhere but clearly did not add any kind of tag.
NO, I am suggesting that users (or Forum goiers) MIGHT want to discuss the concept.
And that Linked Videos rarely get opened because the link is hiding in text.

It would be a great pity if no-one notices, or comments about, the recent addition.
It would be nice, if when there are 10 pictures ( the maximum number) in a project summary gallery you did not have to remove a picture and re-add every time you edited the project summary page.
I asked Chris to do this but he was having difficulty with some of the code, I am also not sure about the wording, do you think it is clear enough (what do you think it means), I had suggested different wording.
I have been bleating about that since 2014
The same applies to Observations with 15
15 as a max in Observations is fine
10 for Projects is not (maybe 20 would but I would agree IF there is a space issue)- And we used to be able to arrange the lead photos into a nice display in Projects
And HTML text used to be retained through edits (it is a hateful part of all my edits).
I agree that the use of HTML text might be limited or restricted
I was surprised at the parsimonious amount of pictures for a project, and having to keep a text version so that all the formatting is not lost at every edit is a pain. Re-posting a picture on every edit slows it down yet more. I have quite a number of other general Boor fyke net pictures which would have been nice to include.
It must take some keeping track with the number of projects you have on the go.
I am not sure if it will help with the issues you are talking about here but in the background the version of software is slowly being updated, I suspect this will be ongoing over the next couple of months. It is being done on a test server. At some critical points we will need to ask people to look at it on the test server to check it has not damaged anything before moving the code to the live server, will give details of how to do this when we get to the points. In theory these updates should keep everything the same but perhaps fix some of the ābugsā (such as not being able to use images in news stories). In practice the layout sometimes changes slightly and certain things may break, will need to find and fix these before continuing to update to the next version.

I keep my formatted texts in a Text Editor - it IS a chore
If only formatting was retained IN the Project, I could dump over 40 lengthy and fairly complex backup texts

I had noticed this but to be honest I donāt think the wording/meaning is particularly clear especially the third one. Iām also not sure what the numbers are used for.
Easily changed. The word ātheirā refers to the user record youāre currently looking at. I couldnāt put the login name in the middle of the phrase so I have to use ātheirā instead - but I can see itās a tad misleading.
