Weekly ❤️iFocus

Fungus day was already one of the things in admin’s mind to publicise so hopefully they will.
I always think that just one day is not really enough for fungi given the weather e.g. if weather poor for fungi then there may be few and if very rainy then few people may get out on that day.

Great discussion all!

Just to let you know from the Admin side we are planning to continue highlight key dates on the environmental calendar both from the UK and Internationally, We took a break for August but are picking up on this again this week.

It would be great to coordinate our highlights with those who are keen to do a something more, also linking features with an iBlitz project would be great. We will be sharing a list of the ideas we have identified for the next three months this week so we can pull that into this discussion also. And to confirm, as Mike said, yes this does include Fungus Day.

Regarding iFocus I would really appreciate it if we could keep iFocus projects on the system where possible. It is such a fantastic effort led by you all and we are keen to have some available on the system as a record / reference of this, as well as give us the time to review / explore the feedback and response to it further, but once deleted they are lost from the system. While saying this, at the same time I do understand the reason why it was initiated and why some prefer to remove them.

Yes, lets’ discuss the pros / cons of this further. I am keen to capture your views about this overall. But I do admit I am keen to keep them :slightly_smiling_face:

Thanks again for all your efforts, I want to say it is great to have such an enthusiastic group!

Hope you’re also having a bit of sunshine today! :sunny:

Do you mean leaving them intact (but changing the title).
They are easy to replicate.
Of those that are retained, very few have been visited and once off the Home Page they are invisible.
You may be interested in the Comment trail of course but that seems of little value to anyone but the contributors themselves.
Will you help me promote the Fungus Day and Autumn Equinox 2 day iBinge or will you run them from the Home page?
Please be aware that dozens of Fungi are being added almost daily anyway.
Both :small_blue_diamond:iBlitzes are showing in here

It would be best if Admin took on the National Fungi day (period) challenge from the (new?) Home page.
We are not engaging many users in the iFocus Series but as it is a National event, YOU will have better placed for engaging users here and off-site. You can tweet, link in other organisation and events on the day, using your power to broadcast the way iSpot works

We can all be tasked with adding a Fungus Observation and its Tag that day or be expelled from iSpot!
.
I am doing the Autumn Equinox Focus on behalf of mags49 and I see it fitting well into the iFocus series but might call it an iBlitz.

UK Fungus Day is 2 October 2021 (events 3 & 4 Oct) and not to be confused with National Mushroom Day (America). There is a list of events on The British Mycological Society’s website and I would suggest asking them to include information about anything iSpot is doing to mark the day. The BSBI’s New Year Plant Hunt has gone from strength to strength and an iSpot Fungi Bioblitz might over time become equally successful.

There are strong links to Citizen Science in their DELIGHTFUL Website Citizen science: For the fungi :: UK Fungus Day
But without a mention of iSpot
Perhaps someone from Admin could talk to Corina Marcos
Find her on Instagram and Facebook: @miniecologyproject
Already a lot of Tweeting going on.
3 weeks to go!

Back to Seals…

.
Derek highlighted this one in Shifting Banners some time ago, I only just found it. An early grey seal spot, and a lovely photo, easy to agree to now I recognise those main features of the Greys!!!
.

.
Anyone else able to offer agreement to bring this one into the light after all this time?

The :recycle: Autumn Equinox iBlitz is finished

Based on the date of observation I have agreed. However, it doesn’t change the Likely.

Looking forward to taking time to go through observations. Well done all who joined in, well done Derek, your changing displays were appreciated.

Thanks, JoC. Have left a message for GB naturalistman to ask him to move agreement to valid ID.

Autumn Equinox iBlitz is done There may well be 200 observations (currently 195)
so 5 needed - check your photos for the 22nd, upload them soon.
.
THANK YOU EVERYONE WHO PARTICIPATED
Here’s the permanent LINLK to the Collection

You can SAVE the filter for your own collection
A few IDs, more agreements and comments are needed

WHO would like to run iSpot’s New year’s day :sparkles: iBlitz? One day only - Loads and loads of support available.
Bookings needed, Pets and Plants welcome, one child (youngest) FREE, NO Covid restrictions.

I’ll try the NY day but need to know how it fits with what comes before (20-30 Dec) and also would like to know what you have in mind as I don’t want to disappoint. M

Edited to add: how do we see this sitting with the BSBI NY plant hunt?

I have put you in for the NYD Blitz - you will get a lot of support.
I will begin lobbying Admin!
Much nearer the time we can discuss tactics but I had assumed we might make as many Observations as we can - breaking the last NYD tally (41) by trebling the numbers of obs. We need to capture the attention of everyone so need co-operation from Admin and the involvement of far more users - perhaps Admin can start a recruitment drive over the Christmas period - oh how innovative is that!?
I see it as an annual event (Recruiting and Blitzing).
I have not thought through the Christmas iFocus but I will remove the added concept of Blitzing, making it more of an ‘ordinary’ Focus. It will be less than ten days but will embrace Christmas Day, for those who get fed up with TV!
BSBI is pretty specialised and seems not to have a great following in iSpot - we need to know if there are butterflies, frogs and swallows around.
Years (I have them all)
Max 2012 239
Min 2018 26

Fine, will have a look at those days in the next few weeks. I just wanted to air the other things, agree will be much wider, blunderbuss even! Get out and blow away the cobwebs no matter the weather, sort of thing.

“How does this sit with the BSBI NY Plant Hunt?”

From my experience, I would say it’s a match made in heaven! I’ve taken part in the plant hunt for a few years now and the iSpot community have always helped me to identify my finds. It means any flowers I find and post will also contribute to the iBlitz.

EDITED 8 Nov. We can edit for 28 days only, after which content is locked
FOLLOW the Jellyfish trail here https://www.ispotnature.org/communities/uk-and-ireland/view/project/834148/
We sometime KEEP these personal project but sometimes not. This means that such links might break and cannot be repaired,
We may need to point to the Current Projects Panel on the Home Screen - one day LOT’S of people will go there to see what’s what!

Another great iFocus.

Another GREAT fortnightly iFocus has begun LOOK in the Projects Panel on the home page…
