Wildlife guess who game

I came up with a fun game called guess who when I was away and thought it would be a cool game. the idea is for you to guess who this animal is I will reveal it to you if you guess the right answer

guess who

I am pretty sure it is a tree rat.

close but not quiet. its not a rat but it is a type of mammal thats all the clues im giveing for now

Tree rat is an informal name for grey squirrel, used when the speaker wishes to indicate that they see grey squirrels as a pest species.

I didnt know that and that doesnt apear to be a very common term cause its the very first time iv heard of tree (rat) I have however heard of tree (squirrel) which is the most acurate term. regardless of weaather a person sees them as a rat which is a term people seem to use unacuratly in the sense that they use it for alot of things that arnt rats and not just rats the gray squirrel is a maamel but a type of rodent that is larger than a mouse and a rat and although similar arnt in taxonomic terms a mouse (or) rat they are actualy a tyoe of tree squirrel in the family sciurus rather than tree rat it goes without saying regardless of if someone calls a squirel a rat they arnt rats but they are a type of rodent like rats are. to my literal thinking if someone were to call something a rat I would stil take the term literaly cause im literal thinker and that is why I said close but not quiet. the term is used for rodents on trees but the catogarys under it are all the rats that are actualy classified as rats taxonomicaly. but that aside if how it is being used is to indicate gray squirrel then yes that is correct

answer is correct

Great photos!
“Tree Rat” seems to be of US origin, I believe it came to the UK not long after the (American) Grey Squirrels themselves: the idea being that folk would be less fond of them, if they thought in those terms. It has gone out of use, I think - but us old 'uns remember it.

Google Ngrams thinks that tree rat is still in use (though Google Ngrams doesn’t let you know about geographical usage).

Google Ngram Viewer: tree rat, grey squirrel

What about flying rats?
They wreck sprout tops.
The most ratty thing of all is a gnawing rat.

thanks. I did need to take a picture with my long lens cause I was literaly on the sofa with my family in the cabin when he or she popped up out the window and the squirrel being so short my 45 mm wasnt the best one it just looked like a small squirrel through that one so my long lens was the best one to use and I had to be quick about it so took less than a 5 minute delay to take the pictures any more than that and I would of missed the squirel cause it was being curious and looking around. I did wonder if tree rat origionated from the US.

I allways find some terms for some species funny and they get funny names sometimes regardless of weather its named after the apearance, behavior, habit etc of a certain species or just the person named after it. thankfuly flying squirrel is named after there habit of glideing rather than the person who called it that.

shall I do another guess who game on this thread? il make this alot harder to guess though

ok then il find another one for everyone

by the way iv got tonsolitis. been diagnosed with it by a pharmisist today so have started antibiotics so playing guess who with everyone will also help take my mind of things

Poor you! Hope you feel better soon!

Flying rats could cause confusion with the real flying squirrels!
I like the concept of the game, Zo. Keep 'em coming!
There are some clever people on here, so bear that in mind. (But not just an insect’s antennae, please!)
I hope that you feel better soon.

thanks. im hoping to be. i cant say with certaintly when I will be better cause I dont know but I found out it usualy takes a couple of days to get better or a week fron it so im hoping to be better in a couple of days.

thanks.
