I’m struggling to use the site today. Earlier, I couldn’t post a comment, then I couldn’t access List View. After a break, it all worked fine for about 10 minutes, then the List View and the Forum both went AWOL. Now, I can’t access my Changes Tracker.
I feel a “Bah! Humbug” moment coming on…
I am finding that iSpot clogs up my Memory or RAM cache far more than it used to.
I frequently have to clear my Browser History in Chrome JUST to allow iSpot to respond.
it is VERY noticeable, when it is cleared, that I can carry on but I have to log in again.
I think iSpot might be sending out too much code or requiring more and more resource to keep us in its loop.
I have a CLEAR MEM shortcut on my Desktop
I am still unable to access the main site, so using the forum to wish you all the best for Yuletide.
Lots of things are clogging up my computer memory - not to mention MY personal memory.
Everything seems to be slowing down.
I tried to add a comment yesterday to wish you a Happy Yule, but having not been able to get onto iSpot for long periods it then wouldn’t let me add a comment here either! The thought was there… Let’s hope iSpot is less grumpy in the New Year.
“for long periods” sounds bad, I know there have been some short times when thrown out like was happening a while ago but not heard about the longer periods.
Sometimes I can’t get on for at least a couple of hours, and occasionally longer. I can usually get around it by alternating between laptop and phone - if it locks me out on one it generally doesn’t on the other, but it doesn’t always work. It’s very unpredictable; some days seem to be worse than others. It can ‘lock’ in the middle of constructing an observation, which is the most infuriating. I know I should clear the browser history but actually I use that a lot to find pages I’ve previously viewed, so it’s not an ideal solution for me. Other users report the same; it’s regularly happening to Steve Smailes, who only accesses iSpot on his phone, for example.
I would like to record that I generally have no problem accessing iSpot & posting both forum comments and observations.
Computers are funny things, aren’t they.
I saw this and say thanks and greetings to you too. Have been reading Dickens over the extended holidays - am still confused, not knowing what day it is - so this may well be Christmas present - not New Year yet
I did have to press a screen reload once earlier today.
It has been pretty good otherwise.
It settled down for me on Saturday, it seems to be behaving normally ("… we will be restoring normality just as soon as we are sure what is normal anyway”) since.
I’ve been finding that the site hangs after I’ve looked at a few (perhaps 10-20) recent observations, always at the same point when I’ve been going from the UK & Ireland Observations List to an observation and with a couple of circling “wait” icons at the right of the screen. If I wait I’m treated to a 500 error. Clearing out the iSpot cookies lets me back in immediately.
Edit: amended direction of move between obs list and observation.
I’ve had problems loading observations today - I’ve managed to load one three hours after my first attempt failed but then the site refused to load another one.
I’ve been getting periods of Error 500s from about when Amadan first reported Yuletide gremlins.
One work-around I’ve discovered is to switch from my usual Chrome to whatever Microsoft’s browser is called. Now to log out before it decides I need to hire more cloud storage space!!
Yuletide Gemlins don’t seem to know Yuletide is over. I’m continuing to find the site very unstable. Site works fine for a short time and then stops - error 500 page appears and hangs around for hours making re entry impossible.
I think iSpot is streaming RAM-eating data.
Like those here I have been experiencing Browser clogging. True I use Chrome but no other site brings my RAM to its knees,
Right now, today, it runs smoothly for me but obviously not for others.
Yesterday I was having to Clear Browsing History DURING the formation of an Observation and so it has been (for me) for a couple of months.
Clearing Browsing (whatever Browser you use), logs you out (should), So I LEAVE the difficult Tab open and Clear History in another open iSpot tab. I log in again in THAT tab, to find the difficult one up and running.
In an hour of browsing iSpot today I did NOT need to clear Browsing History once
I use a Cleaner (Ccleaner) regularly but now always retain the one iSpot Cookie
@miked gave me the impression that the site is capable of “kicking you out” sometimes, without affecting other users
It has been very poor this evening.
