Shifting Banners

Since your request (Equus) is for one of your own, happy to agree. But not yet shifted…

Recent Birds as Plants - need Banner shifts, please

https://www.ispotnature.org/communities/uk-and-ireland/view/observation/11731/ :white_check_mark: Thanks

done first one but second one still needs a bit more weight (more people to agree)

We few had fun - moving over 500 obs from the wrong Group. The link has decayed because I have recycled the Project. this is left as a record.

I wonder if DavidHowdon or Rimo could be persuaded to change their agreements?

Brought forward from March 2019
Weighting waits
"iSpot has just handed me, via a clever search, over 2000 Observations with the Likely Banner stuck in an Incomplete panel. Mosty invertebrates and few with a simple fix
The weight of agreements is overwhelming in some.

PLEASE consider carefully before adding agreements to incomplete Panels. Please exhaust the alternatives - a misspell, a Synonym, or simply iSpot’s refusal to latch. Search the whole site for both names (common and Sc.) for possible solutions, see if it’s in the Drop-down before getting committed…

Adding ‘ sympathy agreements ’ is fine but please make certain that you do not shift the banner from the VALID Panel."
.
Now that 567 Wrongly Grouped ones are clear (today) we COULD begin this process again - IS there support?
This one is typical of the remaining 1541

AND now…
:arrow_forward: https://www.ispotnature.org/communities/uk-and-ireland/view/observation/6439/ :radioactive: marked for removal

dj asks “Is there support?” Well, if we get another Covid lockdown there may be some ispotters with more time on their hands… but maybe we’ll use the time to find and post more Isolation Posts. So many opportunities …

I’ve enjoyed looking at observations from the early days of iSpot and yes I will support your efforts to move them into the appropriate group.

It has been nice, recently, to see how many links are ‘clicked’ in the Forum, and how quickly the 700 Wrongly Grouped were fixed.
Thousands of LOST observations renewed here

I’m looking through the list…

In this one dejay, you have a long comment on Structures which refers to a Curator. What is an iSpot curator? Are they Chosen from among users or OU staff?.
.
On Validation… I think most ispotters just have items higher on their list of things they want to do. Be happy that you’ve got some support here and there.

I suppose @miked should answer that - he IS the iSpot Curator
I was suggesting he should be given more power to alter Observations…
I am very happy to see support and have noticed you have recently done the whole round and more - thanks.
Be happy” To be honest I also have items higher on my list, so will ease-off.
.
The Trial above has failed, for me. I am having trouble checking three sources for updates. My yellow tracker is often three pages long and needs cross referencing with these two areas, here and the Project. It is too much for me. I need to make the whole process simpler. So one source list, the Project and not too many at a time
The List above will disappear tomorrow and will join the other Difficults in a stored block which may come back sometime.
Some of the above have nine agreements but fall short of Validation by quite a few more.It has turned out to be more difficult and frustrating than I thought.

I wonder if there is a way to share the load?
Would assigning some of the observations to other willing volunteers to oversee help. I/we could alert you when the banner shifts and save you having to track progress.

this is possibly best done via a project that only one person can administer. I suspect another project or two, with the same aim, would be a project too far.
Alerting via a comment would put a flag in my Tracker, I will still have to go there, tick the box, remove the line, modify the two masters. It would only lessen the task by a little.

I am about to make it far simpler, for me, by removing everything related to the Project OUT of the Forum
It is just taking too long to update two. One is more than enough!
I can regulate this by being a little less committed, having fewer out for Validation and just the Project to manage. Let it run for a little.
I have just removed all the Block above and added the next comment - I will remove that tomorrow. It is the same list as the project.
A few new people came to help overnight!

PLEASE visit a few - that is why we made the effort
This, for example, has not seen the ‘light of day’ for eleven years

Adding additional agreements or comments is fine…

I am thinking about Shifting banners…
If a genus is added as a holding position for whatever reason, and it becomes Likely (as many do since those engaged in this activity often have sufficient ispot clout to make it likely), then it may be unwise of others of us to agree. I suggest this as, when the new dictionary comes on line, and the correct name is available, then shifting it to that will require most (all?) of those who agreed to move their agreement. And we may not all be around to do so.

One might hope that agreements to the old name would be moved to the new name automatically. I’m an optimist!

Invalid Observations are lost. Any suitable ID is better than invalidity.
Not many, it would seem, agree with this. I’d say we are adding the best ID possible at the time, because few specialist are a/ in the LoTeam and b/ browsing iSpot.
This process is relying on good and enthusiastic Naturalists. Genus is GOOD because it will get seen in many Other Observations Carousel and is easy to isolate in the Species Taxonomy Browser.
Listing (filtering for) any Genus (anyone can do it) will expose THOUSANDS of Observations that could be brought to species (or reduced to Genus). That is why I began creating :eight_spoked_asterisk:iSpotLights
https://www.ispotnature.org/communities/uk-and-ireland/view/project/788984/

I am not disagreeing with the basic tenet of adding a Genus id. where it helps.
.
My point is about our adding further AGREEMENTS to that once it is designated ‘likely’.
.
I am not optimistic about future updates in any system… a pragmatic view is that unless the programmers know about it, then it will happen.

LOST OBSERVATIONS
This one is dying - a shame.
Have YOU added an agreement

PLEASE let this be a lesson to those who agree to Invalid ID panels
